Being a good Scrum Master means possessing a variety of skills and a wide range of tools. The role of a Scrum Master is a four in one. You have to be a Coach, Mentor, Teacher and Facilitator at the same time for the teams and organizations. And this is not a trivial task.
I enjoy seeking new approaches and methods for effective meeting facilitation. Some of them are very helpful, some are not. The goal is to find methods so successful that you would want to use them again and again. This is the case for the activity "Magical animals ". I successfully used it with many teams and during my Professional Scrum Master (PSM) trainings.
This is the warming-up activity and it can be successfully used at the beginning or the end of any meeting. For instance, you can use it on your next Sprint Retrospective. First, we need a bunch of small animal figures. Put them in the bag and tell participants that now everyone has to blindly pull out his/her figure. Important note – we have magical animals, so THEY choose the person, and not the participant picking them. First, get the figure, and then tell why the animal chose you. Lots of laughing is guaranteed.
Activity is very fun and works like a good aperitif for the dish. I wish you effective and joyful meetings!
